the bar at the end of the universe

picture this youre in a smoky bar
no one wants to be there but its the only stop in the universe
all the restaurants along the block were closed along with all the shops

you thought i might as well drop by
rest cuz im tired
take a breath recover myself
retrace my steps in my mind

been walking all night
only guide was the neon lights
heart cried when its cold as ice
frozen

thaw it out with emotions
learn to feel again see if they still exist
even if they dont you seem to remember it

barista asks what you want
you stammer shyly then say “id like to finance a working heart”
she says sorry we aint got it

two of you get to talking
shooting the shit cuz no new patrons is comin in
she says its always like this

she asks how long you been in town
you said “its been about...well, i cant remember now”
she says “that long huh? thats what they all say”

you smile feebly then walk away with your drink
to the seat in the corner for some time alone to think
ruminating how they played such a trick
and got away with it

you maybe sat there a while
before you realized no time was passing by
hands on the clock were exactly the same position
the way it was when you came in, isnt that curious

you brought your laptop to do some work
but your mood is diverted
but you cant stop thinking of a blue haired girl you observed in a corridor
you regretted never asking her for her number
never saw her again

your hands were trembling but it werent DTs
still you hoped no one sees
you lifted your head and sniffed the breeze coming from the AC

kinda cold in here you thought
and it only made you want to put on your beer coat to warm it up
but you already know no matter how much you gulp its not enough

bar at the end of the universe
you are the first and only of the regulars
“heck wheres everyone else?” you ask yourself
you look around like its an empty shell

you hadnt noticed yet cuz you were too compelled by your own thoughts
had so many wishes and wants
desires that never expired you couldnt retire them even after you died

you said “im gonna make em come alive”
you didnt know how but you were sure gonna try
cuz you felt your whole life was wasted otherwise

you were taken before your time
like the divine design was a mistake and you thought you might be right
you paid and left and went back out underneath the streetlights
creeping into the night
